Not in person. But years ago my mom went on a cross country trip and brought back some from the west coast. They were as big as my head!

Thye grow huge artichoke in California, is where I first saw them blossom. if ever you get the chance, see them blooming, not to be missed. warning, if you allergic to bees, keep the epi pen handy, bees love them . To the good, bees who frequent them tend to be docile when gathering.

Wait! What? Were you a deprived child or something? Do you live in a food desert? Oh my dear friend you simply MUST give one a go! The leaves, the HEART! Dripping with butter. You have not truly lived until you have had an artichoke.

Not deprived – just overly sheltered, perhaps, plus the fact that people in our income bracket never spent money on food they hadn’t already eaten before. And it’s entirely possible that the two local grocery stores had never had an artichoke on display before! And if they had, nobody would have known what it was.
