We expect more of kids than of ourselves.

Have you ever noticed that children put in a longer day than we do?

No, really.

Think about this.

We send our children to school for up to 40 hours per week. That's just school hours.

Some children ride a bus for an hour or MORE! EACH WAY!

Then there are after school activities.

And some kids also have work.

That's a full time job plus major over time.

How many of us complain about a 30 minute commute or a 30+ hour work week?

Ah, but remember that a lot of what the kids do, the parents are also participating in one way or another. I can’t even remember how many basketball games I attended or practices that Hubby drove our daughter and two of her friends to five mornings a week – then there were the speech tournaments, the choir rehearsals, the computer club and on and on and on …plus helping with homework, loading huge science fair projects in the car and delivering them to the gym, baking cookies for the little kids, working at fund raisers for various activities, acting as a helper on school trips …

I know, but it is so extreme. My 5 year old will be putting in a 9 hour day in school alone. My FIVE year old.

That’s too much for a kid that age, I agree. So you have all-day kindergarten? Our is still half-day, but they keep talking about making it all-day (for the convenience of the parents, I assume).

ALL day. We need to drive her so she doesn’t have to spend an hour on the bus each way. And it’s just across town.
